Knitting a swatch gauge
Knitting a small swatch before you begin your sweater is very important. This swatch will help you determine your stitch and row gauge. Once you know how many stitches and rows you knit per inch you can compare this information with your patterns gauge and determine how to adjust your cast-on so that your sweater will fit you.
